Santa Fe, or ‘Holy Faith’ in Spanish, is the capital of the New Mexico. Santa Fe is the fourth largest city in the state and has a population of 84,683 in 2019. It is part of the huge metropolitan area of Albuquerque-Santa Fe-Las Vegas combined statistical area. Santa Fe is known to be the oldest capital state capital in the U.S. for being founded back in 1610 as the former capital of Nuevo Mexico.

The Palace of the Governor used to be the capitol of New Mexico and was open to the public earlier than the other buildings in the city. It was a structure made of adobe and was the original site of the Pueblo Revolt in 1680.
Every autumn particularly in the second week of September, the Fiesta de Santa Fe is held. It was according to the first Fiesta council’s proclamation on September 16, 1712 that this type of feast was celebrated in New Mexico. Some of the highlights of the feast include Novena masses, Knighting and coronation of Don Diego de Vargas and La Reina de Santa Fe.
